The Labour Standards Board is an administrative tribunal established pursuant to the Labour Standards Act to hear appeals from decisions or orders of the Labour Standards Officer made pursuant to that Act.
The Labour Standards Act set out the rights and responsibilities of employers and employees who fall under its authority and provides authority to the Labour Standards Officer to make decisions in relation to a large number of matters, including among other:
- issuing a permit to increase or average maximum hours that employees may work
- declaring circumstances to amount to constructive dismissal
- agreeing to substituted holidays
- determining whether wages are owing to an employee by an employer
The Board may hold hearings and consider representations by the persons who will be affected by it decisions.
